Expressions & Equations
- 7.EE.1: Use properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions
- 7.EE.2: Solve real-life and mathematical problems using numerical and algebraic expressions and equations
- 8.EE.6: Graphing proportional relationships, and understanding what the slope represents.
- 8.EE.7: Analyze and solve pairs of simultaneous linear equations
- 7.RP.2.d: Be able to explain what a point on a proportional relationship means, especially paying attention to (0,0) and (1,r)
A Quick Review
After learning direct variations, we now look at graphs that don't begin at (0,0)
For example, if someone has a bank account, they start with a certain amount of money in the bank at the beginning, and it changes by a certain rate everyday, or perhaps in a race, someone got a head start.
This place where the graph starts at is called the y-intercept, or is represented by the variable b.
We can use the y-intercept to begin marking a point on the y-axis, and move up or down using the slope.
